ABU postgraduate school to become independent

Vice Chancellor of the
Ahmadu Bello University
(ABU), Zaria, Professor
Abdullahi Mustapha, at
the weekend said that
the institution’s School of
Postgraduate Studies would be
repositioned in order to make it
autonomous. Professor Mustapha,
who made this known at the
2011/2012 matriculation
ceremony of postgraduate
students, said,
“We will empower the PG school
to become autonomous so that it
can conduct its activities with
dispatch, particularly in terms of
ensuring that students graduate
at the stated time for their various
programmes”.
The VC lamented over the fact that
students overstay the stipulated
period for their programmes,
saying measures are being put in
place to ensure that such
problems become history.
Professor Mustapha enjoined the
students to work hard in order to
make the desire of graduating
them at the right time a success.
In his address, the Dean, ABU’s
postgraduate school, Professor
Adebayo Abiodun Joshua, said
repositioning of the postgraduate
school has started yielding
positive results.
He said the PG school is also
making efforts to make its
academic calendar tally with that
of the undergraduates.
